In the spacious and historic Piper Opera House. John Dobra and Corrado De Gasperis will take you on a gold journey, from ancient times to present.
Gold has been an object of human obsession for thousands of years. The allure of gold made it a passion of rulers historically, and they pursued it in earnest. Gold has long played a significant role in the world’s financial system, and its fascinating story continues to this day. John Dobra will present some of the rich history of gold, including a description of the Comstock Lode’s unique place in that history and a discussion of the role gold has played in monetary history.
Corrado De Gasperis will extend the gold journey by explaining the Comstock mining company is pursuing a leadership position in sustainable, responsible mining. You will learn about Comstock is developing and commercializing environment-enhancing, precious-metal-based technologies, products, and processes for precious metal recovery. Mr. De Gasperis will share how Comstock interacts with its investors, neighboring communities, the natural environment, its industry and its team members. You will also hear how Comstock is engaging in exploration, development, mining, reclamation, remediation, and historic preservation throughout the historic Comstock Lode.
Virginia City Canvas Café will cater the dinner. Canvas Café, Piper Opera House, and The Hayek Group will arrange the dinner and presentation so proper social-distancing is observed by all. John L. Dobra
John L. Dobra, Ph.D., is a retired professor of economics and founding Director of the Natural Resource Industry Institute at the University of Nevada, Reno. Dr. Dobra has also been a Senior Fellow at Canada’s Fraser Institute. He received a Ph.D. in Economics from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA in 1980, and Masters and Bachelor of Science degrees in economics from Portland State University in 1975 and 1972, respectively.
Dr. Dobra has conducted research and published on regional economics, tax policy, environmental and natural resource economics, and public policy for academic, government and industry groups. He has served as a consultant for state and federal government agencies, corporations, and industry associations. An expert on the mining, and specifically, gold mining, he has testified on numerous occasions in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the Nevada and other state legislatures.
Dr. Dobra is married with three children and five grandchildren and in his spare time enjoys travel and other outdoor recreation.
Corrado De Gasperis
Corrado De Gasperis joined Comstock in April 2010, as Chief Executive Officer. He has been a director since June 2011, and Executive Chairman since September 2015. Mr. De Gasperis is also a Director, President and CEO of Sierra Springs Opportunity Fund Inc., a strategic investee of Comstock Mining. He brings more than 30 years of industrial, financial, project management and operational metals and mining, manufacturing, capital markets and board governance experience.
Mr. De Gasperis is also a founding member and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture, a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. He is also a Director of the Virginia City Tourism Commission, and served as its Chairman from December 2018, until January 2020. Mr. De Gasperis holds a BBA from the Ancell School of Business at Western Connecticut State University, with honors. He is a frequent speaker on systems-based management, monetary policy, and the role of gold in our monetary system.
